“Everybody can be great … because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree or make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace and a soul generated by love.”
Martin Luther King Jr.
What are you doing to change the world this new year?
What are you doing to reach outside of your comfort zone to help those in need?
What are you doing to make the world a better place for someone outside your small circle?
What are you doing?
I have asked myself these questions for sometime now.
I can answer that I give money and used clothing to those in need.
I can also answer that I have at times helped feed the hungry.
I send toys to poor children at Christmas.
I help when I can...
Where it is easy...
Where I'm comfortable...
This year will be different.
This year I will go beyond what is easy, beyond what is warm and fuzzy...beyond what is comfortable and painless.
This year I'm going to put my time, energy...and heart on the line for an abused or neglected child.
This year, actually within the week, I am going to join the 70,000+ volunteers that make up CASA.
What is CASA you ask...Court Appointed Special Advocate.
"CASA is a national network of trained community volunteers who are appointed by judges to watch over and advocate for the safety and wellbeing of abused and neglected children. It fulfills society’s most sacred obligation, by making sure a qualified, compassionate adult will fight for and protect a child’s best interest when and where it matters most."
Soon I will start my over 30 hours of training, go through the background checks, be sworn in and then agree to stay with my case until it closes (average 1.5 years).
I will be the voice for a child that might not have one.
I will stand up for a child that cannot stand for himself.
I will be make a difference...
After all each and every child deserves a helping hand...
How about you?
How are you changing the world this year?
